Upcoming TLMs at St Anthony in King George



Next week there will be a Traditional Latin Mass four days in a row!!

Tues, Nov 1 -- Noon High Mass for All Saints Day (Holy Day of Obligation)
Wed, Nov 2 -- Noon High Mass for All Souls Day
Thurs, Nov 3 -- 9:00 AM Low Mass
Fri, Nov 4 -- 7:00 PM Low Mass for First Friday

On Nov 1, bring a picnic lunch for after Mass. The children can play while we eat and enjoy the lovely feast. Perhaps we can pray or chant the Litany of Saints too.

On Nov 2, we will gather in the cemetary after Mass to pray for the plenary indulgence for the Holy Souls. Feel free to bring lunch again that day. With Mass at Noon, there will be lots of hungry people.

We will plan on a bonfire after First Friday Mass on Nov 4. Bring drinks, s'mores ingredients and lawn chairs.

High Mass every Sunday at St. Anthony of Padua

Did you know that St. Anthony of Padua in King George is the only parish in the Fredericksburg area that offers a sung High Mass every Sunday and on most Holy Days of obligation?  This is indeed a great blessing and to which we are humbly grateful!  May God continue to bless our Latin Mass community, which is vibrant and growing.

The choir at St. Anthony's is comprised mostly of the youth of our community.  Please take a listen to their angelic voices.

All Souls Novena
Say once a day for nine days, starting on 24 October until the eve of All Souls Day.

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of Thy servants and handmaids departed, the remission of all their sins; that through pious supplications they may obtain the pardon they have always desired. Who livest and reignest with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.


Novena for the Holy Souls in Purgatory
This Novena, written by Saint Alphonsus Liguori, has different prayers for each of the 9 days, followed by the Prayer to Our Suffering Saviour for the Holy Souls in Purgatory which is at the bottom of the section.

First Day:
Jesus, my Saviour I have so often deserved to be cast into hell how great would be my suffering if I were now cast away and obliged to think that I myself had caused my damnation. I thank Thee for the patience with which Thou hast endured me. My God, I love Thee above all things and I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee because Thou art infinite goodness. I will rather die than offend Thee again. Grant me the grace of perseverance. Have pity on me and at the same time on those blessed souls suffering in Purgatory. St. Teresa of Avila

The seraphic St. Teresa, born at Avila (Spain) at the age of 18 entered the convent of St. Mary of Mount Carmel.  As the Reformer of the Carmelites, she re-established the primitive observance of their ancient Rule.  On account of her invaluable works on mystical Theology, she may be considered one of the greatest Doctors of the Church. She died in 1582.

Graciously hear us,  O God our Savior, and grant that as we rejoice in the festival of blessed Teresa, Thy Virgin, so we may be nourished by her heavenly teaching, and grow in loving devotion towards Thee.   Through our Lord.

Apostolic Hope

    "In his work the apostle needs to be sustained by a strong hope.  The moments of enthusiasm are brief, success is quickly followed by failure, difficulties are numerous, the struggle waged by enemy forces is sharp and incessant, and if the apostle is not firmly anchored in God by solid theological hope, he will end, sooner or later, by giving up the enterprise in discouragement.   'I have overcome the world' (Jn 16,33), Jesus declared, and sending the apostles to continue His victorious mission, He assured them, 'I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world' (Mt 28,20).  The foundation of apostolic hope is the victory of Christ and His continual help.  Yes, He is with us all days, even on the dark days, when the horizon is black without a ray of light, when the enemy triumphs, when our friends forsake us, and when, humanly speaking, one does not see any possibility of success.  If we had to rely upon our own resources, our ability, our works, we should have every reason to give up in despair; this, however, is not the case.  We hope and we are certain in our hope, because God is omnipotent, because He wills all men to be saved, because Christ has redeemed us with His Precious Blood, and because He has died for us and for us has risen again; and finally, because His promises-the promises of God-are infallible: 'Heaven and earth shall pass, but My words shall not pass' (Mt 24,35).
     Relying on the  salvific will of God, on His infinite power, and on the redemption of Christ, the apostle should nourish the certain hope that grace will triumph in the end.  But at the same time, he should have no delusions; he should realize that he will not attain victory except by passing through Calvary.  'Neither is the apostle greater than He that sent him' (Jn 13,16). If Jesus reached the triumph of the Resurrection only after His Passion and most painful death, the apostle cannot seek another way.  For him also, there will necessarily come hours of darkness, but rather than being a sign of defeat, they will be the prelude to victory; rather than being a sign of abandonment on the part of God, they will be a proof that God is with him, precisely because He is leading him by the very same way along which He led His divine Son." 


On this feast of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, may we ask our Heavenly Mother to intercede for us on the road to Calvary.  O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.

Our Lady of Good Remedy



Eight hundred years ago, Christians were being captured and sold into slavery by the thousands, and nobody knew what to do about it.  Then, in the year 1198, a man had an idea.  St. John of Matha founded the Trinitarians to go to the slave markets, buy the Christian slaves and set them free.  

To carry out this plan the Trinitarians needed large amounts of money.  So, they placed their fund-raising efforts under the patronage of Mary.  They were so successful at that, over the centuries, the Trinitarians were able to free thousands and thousands of people and to return them safely home. 

In gratitude for her miraculous assistance, St. John of Matha honored Mary with the title of "Our Lady of Good Remedy."  Devotion to Mary under this ancient title is widely known in Europe and Latin America, and the Church celebrates her feast day on October 8.  Our Lady of Good Remedy is often depicted as the Virgin Mary handing a bag of money to St. John of Matha.  

When in need - for whatever reason, but especially where you have had difficulty obtaining help - invoke the aid of Our Lady of Good Remedy, and you will surely experience the power of her intercession.
